Install UBUNTU 7.10?

I just got a UBUNTU 7.10 on a CD.

I got a laptop with 256MB graphics card, 1GB RAM, wide screen, got an empty partition where i wish to install UBUNTU.

I load the CD and when i go to Start or Install UBUNTU it gets into tat loading screen then it shows some parameters tat is being loaded(like a test) and at 2 points says not found something and then hangs. I know i got to tweak it a little but i dont know wat parameters to change to make it run on my laptop. The CD is fine cos it worked on the Desktop tat i have. Please advice. and i dont know any of the commands on linux. tats y i wanted to get a linux software and some of them sujested me this 1...

    I dealt with this problem recently. the first step is to make sure you are using the REAL CD not the LIVECD version of ubuntu. What you need to do her is a bit more complex. What you do is you need to go into your console which is ctrl + f1 and then you need to run some commands on how to access yoru xorg.conf and change your video settings. Then after using the default video drivers which is (nv) if you are using an nvidia graphics card you look up a program to install the newest nvidia drivers for you. I found this eaier than installing it manually. By the way, xorg.conf is the X server which is the display that ubuntu uses. Do some reasearch before attempting to install it, it is not quite as easy to install on laptops. Good luck!
