driver questions?
Im a commercial driver so I SHOULD know this but ya know...two questions:
1. if your passenger is not wearing a seatbelt and a cop pulls you over. Does he pay/get the ticket, or does the driver pay/get the ticket?
2. what is the length you can have something protrude from the rear of the vehicle? Such as when you are hawling lumber that is longer than the vehicle? And at what point is a red flag required? how far is to far where even a red flag does not even make it legal?
Im from LA Cali

I'm from california, not sure where you're from and if the laws are the same or not...
1) your passenger gets the ticket if they are 16 or older, otherwise you get the ticket
2) i believe the length of a protruding object that must have a red flag if it is longer than 3 feet...might wanna consult your DMV handbook on that one though, i could be wrong

I think that the passenger has to be under the age of 16, and if you are pulled over and they are not wearing a belt then you are fined. If they are over the age of 16 I think that they get the fine, that is what I heard. For the wood, I haven't ever seen anything over two feet, and usually if you have something protruding from the back of your vehicle you need to have an identifying flag, so other motorists are aware. Some of these answers are in the drivers handbook. I am not sure if you live in Ontario or not, but try this site to get your other answers. http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/hand...
You should find out from the ministry for sure, because anyone can give you an answer on here, but they change the laws so often that you never know now a days.
Hope that helps....

All of this depends on local laws.
1. In some states, the driver gets the ticket, in others the passenger. Generally, if the passenger is a minor, the driver gets the ticket, though.
2. This varies, but in my state anything over 4' past the end of the vehicle needs a red flag. Check your local laws. And in my state, there is no limit to the length that it sticks out (the vehicle and projection combined can't be more than 45'), but many states do have limits on this.

1. The passenger gets the ticket unless they are under 16 years old, then the driver gets the ticket.
2. I'm pretty sure you should have a flag if it protrudes any more than 3' or so. As for what is too long...? I think when the length that the item protrudes is more than the length of the vehicle. You should probably check with your DMV though

As the driver of the vehicle you are held responsible for your passengers, and in most states you and the front seat passenger would be in violation of the seat belt law, unless the front seat passenger is a minor in which case you will be totally responsible for the fine.
On the avreage nothing should extend more three feet past the rear of your vehicle, without a RED flag, anything more than half the length of the vehicle your are driving should protrude beyond the rear of that vehicle.

1. If you are the driver of a vehicle, you are responsible for the contents of your vehicle and your passengers so you will receive the ticket and you are responsible to pay it.
2. In most states if the load of your vehicle extends 3 feet past the rear of your vehicle then you need to mark it with a red flag and in most states the length is not to exceed 6 feet.
