Germans' ~ A rude nationality ?????
I was born and raised in Texas but my father is German, I speak both langugages fluently, of course you will notice a slight accent in my German.
I went to Germany last year and it wasn't as much pleasure as I thought. The people were so rude, especially when they noticed I wasn't a "real German" and when I approached people, they said in a very rude way "was wollen sie" (what do you want), I didn't know what the problem was because I wasn't doing anything wrong. Also, I went to a Bank and had some problems with my ATM card, so I asked the lady working there and she replied: "norchmal probiren, keine maschine in america, oder was" and then I had this guy who said to me "nix, versteh nur banhof", horrible experience with germans, I never want to go back there.
Anyone else here who experienced the same with germans???

sapphireoceans: There are far not as many RUDE people in the world as there are in Germany, that is the country of the rudeness (any word existing like this one).
Anyhow, my mom is from Slovenia and we lived in Germany for 17 years and whenever she opened her mouth, and said something, they started being unfriendly, rude with her because they heard she wasn't a "GERMAN"
We imigrated to the States about 10 years ago, and the people here are like heaven, of course you will experience 1 out of 900 a rude person, but nobody ever said to my mother in the USA:
GO BACK TO YOUR HOME COUNTRY, GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM
as they said in Germany. That is really very rude and now I hated living here and even my German father likes the US people much better than his home country!

I'm sorry for everyone who had such experiences with germans. But I don't understand how some of you can be so selfsatisfied to judge about a whole nation by some own experiences or the historical facts you know or don't know.
By the way Hitler was austrian but that doesn't make any difference. He also could have been british indian or even american.
Charles S:what do you think which languages I hear when I sit in the Bus S-Bahn or wherever? And by the way I saw your fellow countrymen running through german streets spitting on ground with their right hands hold up!But I know not all of you are such pricks
Now it's time for thumbs-down on the frigid, cold, self absorbed, nazi poisened german scum

I am sorry that you have experienced this in Germany, I should apologize for the German's and I totally understand what you are saying, they are rude and since more and more foreigners from different countries are residing there, they are becoming more pissed, depressed and rude.

Nope, I thought Germany was great, and I don't speak a word. When I go some where, I take notice of how people act and dress and do the same. It makes a good first impression.

You get rude people wherever you go. Keep in mind most of the world hates Americans. I was best friends with a woman who was from Germany. If she met a descent hardworking person then she liked you but if she met a scumbag she was real quick to let them know she didn't like them.

I know what you mean. I am from Europe myself and i was shocked at how friendly and nice people in Texas are. Germans and Europeans in general tend to be a little snobbish... it is just a completely different culture.
