Is it unethical to take advantage of a website's possible mistake?

I was shopping online for an item which generally retails for $50 to $150, depending on size, power, etc.

I found a website that was offering what I was looking for at a price of less than $2 each, with a shipping price that did not reflect the weight of the item I wanted to order.

I don't know if they made an error when entering the price of the item, or if they were dumping the item (although the price seemed far too low even for that).

Was it unethical for me to buy the item at what was probably an incorrect price? Was it wrong of me to order a second one with plans to sell it on ebay?

Update:

I paid with PayPal, so they don't have my credit card number.

If they contact me and inform me the item was priced incorrectly, I won't push the issue.

They will probably request the corrected amount and give you a chance to cancel the order. A $100 item sold for $2 is too big of a mistake for the seller to eat. Second, I hope it was a legitimate web site, unrealistic prices are often scammers looking to do credit fraud.

This is very astute business, I see nothing morally wrong with what you have done. I would take the same advantage. In fact I think that you have done the seller a favour, these mistakes will be the wake-up call when the business profits begin to fall. Don't worry about other peoples stupidity, take advantage of it

i think you answered your own question with the phrase 'to take advantage of' ......that implies that you know it was wrong....am i going to judge you as a result?....no......but if you know for sure that the price was a mistake then you know for sure that while it's not quite 'breaking and entering' it is still stealing...i don't go to church but there's a phrase, "what would jesus do?" if you can answer it honestly for yourself, then you already know the answer... if you like, substitute 'Buddha' or ''Muhammad' in place of 'Jesus'....or strictly on a secular basis, how about "what would superman do?" or maybe "what would ghandi or m.l.king do?"

i dont think so. i really dont think it was an error. do you realize the mark up prices americans pay on a daily basis. a simple bottle of designer shampoo at cost is no more than $3.00 while you buy the stuff for $60.00+!

Wait 'till you get your credit card bill. Once they have your acount # they can adjust the amount to reflect the correct price.
