Can sweets give your dogs worms?
I have three very mischievous dogs... I recently found out they were getting into the lower cabinets and eating the cereal, cakes, and candies I keep hidden underneathe it... ... at first I thought it was mice... I was in the process of calling an exterminator and rearranging my kitchen by putting the dishes in the bottom cabinets and the sweets in the top ones... until I caught them in action today when coming home from work early..Im still going to rearrange it so that they cant get into the sweets anymore. I had called one of my friends and asked should i take them to the vet... just to be on the safe side and she said yes they could get worms... Is it true that dogs get worms from eating sweets...?

Not true.
They can only get worms from contacting something with the worm eggs (another dogs poo). They can also get worms from eating dirt (because another dog pooed there). Gross!

No, not unless the sweets have worm eggs in them.
I certainly hope that's not the case.
Otherwise, maybe try putting baby locks on those cabinets just to be sure the dogs don't get into whatever else you put in them.
Also, maybe brush their teeth.
But no worms. If sweets could give worms do a dog, they could also give them to people.

no dogs do not get worms from eating sweets. I dont know how this old wives tale started.
Unless the sweets contained eggs or larvae in them, no, they wont catch worms from sweets any more than you would get worms from them!

dogs only get worms from ingesting eggs of parasites, so unless they are parasite eggs in the sweets, no worms. of course the vet will be happy to see you, she can charge you for the visit, then add on medication and maybe a stool sample. I'd just take in the stool sample, see if there is anything, higher chances in a home with multiple dogs, but not b/c of the sweets.

worms come from worm eggs. I doubt your cereals and candies have worm eggs on them ;)
P.S. If any of the sweets have chocolate in them, take them to the vet anyways, chocolate can be deadly to (some) dogs

Answer this question: Do you have worms from eating all those sweets? Seriously, no they won't get worms, but I'm surprised they didn't get the runs!

No worms come from contaminated food and water that contains the worms or their eggs, unless you have worms in your food (unlikely) your dogs will not get infected.

Only if the sweets were infected with worm larvae or eggs already. Sugar doesn't cause worms - contact with the juvenile form or the eggs does.
