Is there any good online support groups to help quit drinking alcohol?

I used www.quitsmokingcenter.net and have been smoke free for 430 days....now it is time to tackle quiting booze. I drink way too much and just need a little help. If you know of any sites that groups of people are helping each other quit...that is what I'm looking for.

Update:

PLEASE DON'T SAY AA. THERE SUCCESS RATIO IS TERRIBLE AND I AM LOOKING FOR ONLINE SUPPORT, NOT GROUP MEETINGS IN SOME CHURCH BASEMENT. THANKS

It's an online webchat room where you can discuss and voice their feeling and get help from fellow recoverer's..

AAOnline.net produces open "facsimile" AA real time topic meetings for Alcoholics on the WWW. It has 32 online Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week and plans to add more. Approximately 35 to 85 people flow through the room during any one meeting. Average attendance per meeting is 38. All recovering alcoholics, or anyone with a desire to stop drinking with a Flash 7 (or above) Enabled Browser can attend the Meetings.

Hope this helps and I wish you well in the future :)

Takes One To Know One, So Listen Up...well there are any number of alternatives but AA is the best. take it from me; I know cuz I been there and done that too many times. been drinking for 30 years and been an alcoholic for probably at least, well I don't know, but most of the time. I only drink beer and only 7 or 8 when I drink. been in rehab three times. been in and out of AA. worked the program, went to meetings, did fine, quit going and soon started drinking again. if your like me and every other alcoholic you are probably trying the same things to quit over and over and over and getting the same negative results. AA teaches you a new way of life and a new way of thinking and looking at yourself and the world. needless to say I'm not going to meetings and not currently involved in AA and have got only about 12 days sober now and feel like ****! I think I can do it this time! but in reality if I don't start going to meetings again I'll almost certainly end up drinking again. YOU SEE, it's that word "almost" that fools everyone into thinking they can beat it this time. I should know better. I haven't had more that 3 or 4 weeks in a row sober in the last 7 years, ever since I was in rehab last. GOOD LUCK!!!

You are right about AA but why does it have to be done on-line. You might find you drink less if you get out and associate with some folks that are not drinking and are doing something constructive. go to school, build a boat, read a book, ride a harley. Good Luck!!

You know -- the success rate of AA is 100 percent for people who are sick and tired of being sick and tired, who are committed to wanting a better way of life, and are committed to not drinking one day at a time.

Your best thinking has turned you into an alcoholic. Is it time to make some *different* mistakes -- or maybe even try something new?

AA has online support groups. But even better, they have free meetings in just about every town where they will welcome you with open arms. Just google around and find the number for your area and they will tell you about nearby meetings. It really helps to have someone to talk to face to face, and to call.

Source(s): Sober (with AA) for over 6 years and off cigarettes for over 5 years, thank G-d!

look up alcoholics anonymous. the only requirement for "membership" is the desire to stop drinking. it rocks!

YOO HOO edit: Take Campral. It reduces the desire to drink. It has to be prescribed, but it really works
