the Accord is a much bigger and more& expensive car than the Rabbit
the Civic is more equal to a rabbit.
you can get a heavily optioned rabbit for $19,000
a Accord will cost you $20K for the base model
Base Retail (MSRP): $21,860
have you considered a Honda Fit or Civic?

Very different cars.
The Honda Accord holds the title for most reliable car in the world.
But the Rabbit/Golf is the best selling car in the world next to the VW Beetle.
The new Honda Accord is a big family sedan with lots of luxury, a smoother and quieter ride, more space, more powerful and faster.
The new Rabbit is more fun to drive, handles better because of smaller size, is easier to park, has less power, but just as fast. And it has more standard features and it is cheaper.
Both get about the same gas mileage.
If I had a family, I would get the Accord.
If I was single, I would get a Rabbit. No need for the extra space.
The Rabbit also has a very reliable engine. The older VW's had electrical problems with power windows getting stuck on light bulbs burning out quicker than usual.
But the new Rabbits have no problems so far according to J.D. power and Associates Reliability ratings and car reviews from Edmunds.

being an onwer of a vw, let me say, they are amazing cars, and even with the base sticker, it has all the safety functions, and lxuury functinos that you have to pay extra for in most cars, plus, asn long as you matain them, they are amazing cars, despite what people may say. With that said...
The Honda Accord would be a good choice if you want more room. Its stylish, fun to drive, has cool safety features, and more power. Keep in mind that this car will have a higher insurance premium, and honda has less of a customer care package/warranty when it comes to their cars. Plus, i had an 02 accord, and i had alot of transmission problems.
The VW rabbit is the perfect choice for you if you want style, functionality, and are willing to give up the space that the accord offers you. This car is amazing. I bought a similar model jetta, but they have the same engine. ITs the envy of all my friends! its fast, fun, stylish, and safe. But most of all, it has super good care packages. Like.. for instance, if your driing up to san diego for the weekend and you run out of gas on the freeway (oops) they'll drive to you and give you a gallon for free, (gee honda when are you goign to do that?).
Plus, with the high demand of hondas, your most likely going to get a better deal with the rabbit.
So it all comes to whats more important to you. If you want a more of an economy car, go for the rabbit.
if you want more of a family style meets sports car, go for the accord, either way, you wont be disappointed with your hoice

Honda Accord 08 :) > "The Accord received several key safety updates for the 2008 model year, most notably standard vehicle stability assist (VSA) and active front head restraints for all models. These new safety features contributed to perfect crash test scores for the Accord, earning it a "Top Safety Pick" designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an honor not bestowed upon most of the Accord's competitors.
The size of the 2008 Accord has been increased by 4 inches (102 mm) in length and 3 inches (76 mm) in width. As a result, the interior space is also enlarged: an Accord sedan without moon roof has a combined interior space of 120.0 ft³ (3.40 m³), enough to be considered a full-size car by EPA standard. An Accord sedan with moonroof is still considered a mid-size car as it has a combined interior space of 115.0 ft³ (3.25 m³). The Accord coupe is classified as a compact car, as it has a combined interior space of 104.0 ft³ (2.94 m³) without moonroof and 101.6 ft³ (2.88 m³) with moonroof."

The Honda. My friend bought an '07 rabbit, nothing but problem after problem. Lot's of electrical issues. Besides, I've heard nothing but horror stories about VW and reliability, on the other hand I've heard nothing but praise about the reliability and ability to hold value when it comes to Honda.

Honda - made in Japan (better quality because of the Japanese automobile assembly process, but thats another topic). Honda is one of the highest rated automobiles as far as reliability goes.
Get the Honda
