Old music vs. New?

In my opinion there are a LOT of crappy bands nowadays that can't write music. A lot of older music seems to be written much better. Why is that?

This probably isn't very accurate, but it's my opinion that they cared more about the music and what they were doing than making money and fitting into the popular genre.

It is because all the things with music have been done already. That and there isnt anything to write about anymore. Rap started as a way to speak out against racism, and most old rock was either about drugs or the "Rock Star" life. Now, that doesnt exist anymore. And many bands attempt to copy this. For example, War Pigs by Black Sabbathwas written about the War in the east for oil way back then. And BYOB by System Of A Down was written about the same thing, just 2 different generations

I think that now, record companies hire bands to make music that fits into what is in now instead of signing them because they are a great band. Back in the 80s for example, a lot of bands made alot of different kind of music. It was the start of rap, extreme metal, glam rock, and alot of pop. Back then, the artists cared and were there for the music. Not the fans or popularity.

New bands are too much into being popular and selling records and if they don't all sound the same they remake older bands songs. Like any other trendy thing they come and are forgotten after a while ,while the real deal's music, lyrics and instrumental inovations are still as fresh today as when they were first done . Old skool still rule supreme.

That's because music has lost it's soul..The music industry doesn't care about the quality of the music anymore, they just want to make $$$. & everybody is out for a piece of the pie. Back then it was more about using the music to express an idea, to bring us together (The Beatles, for example). But nowadays it's all about gettin' rich.

i like 80's rock and modern music too but i must agree the older stuff tends to be written better but that is not for all bands there is some stuff out there with awsome lyrics and good musicians

  • I think because the Old Bands had a hard time to reach fame.So they write songs from their hard times experience, But new bands just bring a piece of paper and try so hard to write a song although they dont have enough experience in real life.

To tell the truth, I think the technology of today makes it easier to have less talent. Not to say that today's bands aren't talented, but they can rely on alot more wizardry to fix errors and to make sounds that probably couldn't be realized before the early 1980's. Which in turn makes it easier for the entertainment industry to churn out sound-alikes that may not be able to sing or play an instrument.

i'm a huge Sixties guy guy. The doorways, The Stones, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and so on.. no longer all track immediately is poor. Artists like Nicki Minaj and Fetty Wap are very universal recently and artists like them are bringing track down immediately. There are some sturdy high quality bands nevertheless available guy.
