Because traditionally, the Heart is a symbol of love, romance, and passion. Also traditionally, red is the color symbol for the same emotions. They are paired together because they share the same meaning. That's also part of the reason that lovers give one another red roses. Each color rose actually has a different meaning....A red rose being love, passion, and romance. BTW...for others who answered about the Purple Heart...that's an award that is given to soldiers hurt in service to our country. It's not actually purple. It's metal.

My heart is black, because I don't believe in the fabled " true love". My soul on the other hand is probably some shade of blue....I feel a deep & abiding love for my children and parents.

...red plaid...and I'm not trying to be sarcastic, I have several shades and lines and angels that make up the tapestry of my soul...It is all woven and intertwined...sometimes hard to follow, even for me, yet it's over all appearance is not all together bad
