services.exe?

Why does this program occasionally start using up 98 or 99% of my processor resources? It almost completely freezes everything else running, I can't end the process with Task Manager, and I'm at it's mercy until it decides to let go of my cpu. I'm running Windows 2000. What gives?

    you might have a virus that is running as a service .. try going into safe mode and scanning ur computer. since not all services run in safe mode u can do that.. services.exe is required by windows and cannot be closed so its the best way for a virus to attach itself .. services.exe shold not be taking that many resourcess
