What's your favorite "dead teenager" song from the 50's, 60's?
"Dead Man's Curve?" "Leader of the Pack?" "Teen Angel?" Any others? Some were about young adults, not necessarily teens ("Green, Green Grass of Home"), but I'll allow them.
A morbid genre that produced some memorable ballads. Let the floodgates open!
Btw, some of us really did lose a teen or young adult around then, and the songs were especially painful. If you had such a connection, I'd like to hear about that, too.
Suzianne -- For that matter, there is also "Big John". That last line still brings tears to my eyes ("At the bottom of this mine...").
Btw, in high school, a classmate's boyfriend was killed in an accident on our very own "dead man's curve."

"Leader of the Pack" was my favorite. I also think the genre served an important purpose. It reminded teenagers of the grief caused by careless actions. All things considered, that was a lesson well worth teaching. Those songs may have saved lives.
My favorite sad maudlin tune that does not quite fit in that group, is the Ballad of the Edmund Fitzgerald. A lot of good lives have been lost in the Great Lakes.

An oldie that never topped out on the charts but was my fav: Laurie by Dickie Lee. Spooky as all get out & a Halloween fav for many years!
BTW, Dickie Lee also wrote Patches, an equally sad but not eerie song popular when I was in high school. A lady in here mentioned it & I thought I'd answer.

Teen Angel was my favorite. And an easy one to remember
all the lyrics to. Many years ago, there was a made for TV
movie, based on one of the teen tragedy songs, and they played parts of the song during it and at the end they played the entire song. I remember it to be a tear jerker movie, based on the song of course. It was on TV in the 80's or early 90's. I don't remember if it was "Teen Angel" or "Laura". But
it was a nostalgic bit of fluff.

The Last Kiss, Teen angel, Patches, Ebony eyes. I don't know why we were so fascinated about these kind of songs, but I Know I was, I just cry every time I would hear them. Just remembered a country song , I also liked - Running Bear

Teen Angel and Tell Laura I love her. Real downer songs at that time. I can see how kids get into it since there always seems to be someone knows someone that got killed and teens believe they will never die.
Heck I even thought I was invincible for a while. ( Dang, I'm not)

Teen Angel. There's also a lesser known dead teen song called Patches. My mom has an old 45 of it that I listened to many times as a kid.I can't remember who sang it ,it was a male singer. It's about a young girl who drowns herself in the river that runs by the coal yard, and her beau who is so overcome he joins her in death.

I Want My Baby Back - Jimmy Cross.
in the song,he's the guy who trashed 'leader of the pack' also killed his girlfriend.Hear him digging her up at the end and her coffin creaking open.Sounds sick, but It's very funny the way it's put together
