Can you help me with Windows XP?

My sound icon is missing from my tray.

when I go to the control panel to I noticed that

the entire sound and devices folder missing

How do I retrieve it?

    system restore your PC to a time when it was working.

    Could be a corrupt driver. Go into the Device Manager and see if there is some yellow where is says "Sound, video, and game controllers. If so, reload the sound driver. If you have onboard sound, then the drive will be found on the motherboard driver disk. If you have a third party sound card, then the driver is on the CD that came with the card.

    take your mother board software cd and install it again
