MOS 13F...What are my chances?
I am currently going through the blue to green process and switching from the AF to the Army. I was wondering if anyone knew how hard it would be for me to try to get 13F as an E5. Is the Army currently hurting to get slots in this MOS. Out of all the jobs that I have looked into this has caught my eye the most. Thanks
By the way..13F is Fire Support
Thank for the support. I have spent the last 6 years working in what the Army calls the TOC so you can see why I want to get away from the desk and out in the field.

Yes, you can get it. That is one of the MOS's that are constantly offering large bonuses and re-enlistment bonuses. I don't know if they will let you keep your e-5 or not though, but if they do take rank from you, then it will not take you long at all for you to get it back. It is something stupid the Army does. I am a cavalry scout, and in my troop we have a few guys that are 13F (fisters as we call them). That is just how the Army organizes an armored recon squadron.
Honestly, I have seen you guys in the TOC before and I'm sure that you are ready to get out there and do a cool job in teh military. But I would refer you to cavalry scout 19D. It is a really fun job and pretty bad ***. You ought to try to check it out. YouTube has several videos that can show you all about the scouts and what they do, and even some vids of the good stuff in Iraq. Here are two links:

You really ought to look in to the Cav, man. It is awesome with a lot of tradition.

It shouldn't be hard to get it. On a side note, I think it's one of the best jobs in the military, but I'm partial being that I was a 0861 in the Marines (same as a 13F except we get to go to naval gunfire school). The worst part is having to go to school in Ft. Sill, but the up side is that you get to blow a lot of stuff up.
If you have any questions about the particulars of the job let me know I am more than willing to pass on what knowledge I have.

You'll get it no problem. It isn't as hard to get a job in the army as it is in the air force.
