Programs to Edit Music?

Does anybody know any good programs that you can use to edit music. Something that lets you cut swearing out of it etc. I need something simple, and that I can possibly just download for free... and how would I get the music files on it so I can start editing it(like from Limewire or something)? Please help....

Most informative and detailed answer gets 10 points ^_^

Update:

Oh yeah... I tried this one called 'Audacity', It looked okay, but I couldn't get any files onto it... Unless anyone knows how I can. I still have it installed(just done it a few minutes ago actually), if no one knows I'll probably un-install it...

One of your more advanced softwares on the market is Sony Vegas 8, it allows you to do any kind of editing that is known. I have been using this product for some time now and the one thing that I like about it, is that it comes with detailed interactive tutorials that provide walk-through demonstrations of common features and functionality.

It did take some time to learn it but once you have the basics down, it is pretty easy, The only downfall is it is kinda pricey.
