Am I wrong for charging my friends for making up their faces?

I don't charge when i use NYX or my Beauty Sensations and a couple of others, but when I use my MAC I charge them and they think its not fair. I tell them if they buy their own I will do for free...but you know that's not going to work. I don't work for MAC so I don't get discounts. Maybe I should start charging for both

Update:

I don't charge them much sometimes $5, and not each time.

Please remember that I am not a teenager so it's not like we do sleep overs, lol we are all adult women 26 and up.

i don't mind giving a discount lol

you are right about the brushes, i have disposable ones though

i would charge a lil bit, but not too mucg b/c they ARE your friends. and friends do stuff for each other. the only reason i would charge a little is b/c mac is more expensive. and yeah it sounds reasonable that you would do it for free if they brought their own. so dont worry. you could even charge if they bought their own b/c you are taking time out to do them a service. but like i said, friends help friends out so thats totally up to you :)

I think it depends on the frequency. If you do it a lot - then, yes you should charge your friends something. Makeup is expensive, explain that and ask them to make a small contribution so that you can continue to make up their faces and replace used products. If they don't want to do that, then insist that they bring their own makeup for you to use.

I'm female, by the way and I have a friend who has a natural talent for applying makeup. Everyone wants her to do their makeup, and most everyone brings their own product, or offers a contribution to the "makeup fund", because she has such great products. But we are all friends and realize how expensive makeup is and do no expect her to use all of her product on us without being paid something to go towards new products to replace what has been used. She is talented, we all love and appreciate that, so it's not a problem with us and shouldn't be with your friends. You, after all, are doing them a favour and shouldn't have to pay in the bargain by using up all of your product. And yes, you should start charging for both, it is right and it is fair.

Its not rude to charge them because yes MAC is truly expensive. I think you're still being a good friend when you tell them if they have their own cosmetics you will do it for free.. thats being a friend! If its as someone previously stated and you girls are just hanging out and you want to do makeovers then no dont charge them, but if they want you to do it so you can all go out or for special occasions, then you have to draw the line somewhere. In my opinion, its not JUST about the money, its about your friends being considerate and knowing when they are trying to take advantage. Try to work out a system with them and dont charge them what you might charge a random person who you dont consider a friend. They are still your friends after all and thats where the compromise comes in. Fair is fair :-)

No, I don't think that you are wrong. But I wouldn't charge for the both. Tell them before do the make up and explain very calmly why you charge them.

Make up can be really expensive. But they may not undestand you. So maybe you should only do the make up to those who bring theirs.

I wouldn't charge, but definitely have them bring their own from now on. Sharing makeup can share germs and it can cause the makeup to go bad quicker. Have them bring their own makeup and also their own brushes and tools (thats what spreads the germs when you go from the makeup pot to your eyelid, back to the makeup, then to your friends face).

I used to do my friends' makeup for special occasions and I wouldn't charge, but I had them bring their own makeup. Sometimes I would go shopping with them ahead of time to pick out new shades. Good luck :)

  • No you're not wrong. MAC is expensive. So since they think it's unfair, I think it would be best to charge everybody so that no one can really complain.

If I let you do my makeup, would you give me a discount?

No I don't think that you're wrong at all. Make up costs money. I would charge for both unless they want to bring their own make up for you to put on. You're providing a service to them right? Make up artists don't work for free.

if it is just once in a while, I would do it for free. If it is often, maybe ask them to buy lunch or something, or bring their own cosmetics and you will apply that.

How much are you charging them?

That is rude! Imagine going to your friends house just wanting to use her makeup and do makeovers like alot of girls do and then your friend says you have to pay her to use the makeup! That is so immature.

I am sorry for being harsh but that is just wrong

Is money everything to you people??? Have fun with your friends! The minute you make them pay for using your makeup once in a while is the minute you have stooped lower than low! I cannot believe all of the answers encouraging you to do this!! UGH
