Is it possible to only apply children for food stamps?

Meaning that an adult won't be applying with them. If so, how?

The system requires an adult to verify income or lack there of.

If the kids need food wouldn't it stand to reason the adults would too? I would starve before I let my kids go hungry.

Sometimes, but rarely, below is the regulation. In short, the child can be separate if they are a foster child, emancipated, or is self supporting. The children have to apply with parents they are living with or other adults that have "parental control" over them (parental control is explained below). In short, if there are three children 5, 7, and 13 years old and they are living with grandma or aunt because mom/dad are absent (in jail or other reason) then they have to apply with grandma/aunt because grandma/aunt are exerting parental control over them (the kids can't support themselves).

  • No. You would be applying as a household. You would be the one applying, not your children. Otherwise, every parent could do that and receive government aid.
