Help with oily skin and makeup?

I'm an 18 year old girl, and I'm pretty good with makeup except for the fact that I can't find anything that will tone down my oily skin. I wear liquid foundation, and when I first apply it, it looks flawless. But if I dont put powder over it, within 20 mins, my face is shiny and I have to keep re-applying powder at least once an hour or else it just looks really bad. I don't want to have to wear so much makeup, but the foundation is what covers up my uneven skin tone. I wish I didnt have to wear powder cause it ends up looking cakey after applying it several times. Help?

Update:

I also use a prescription cream for acne, wash my face twice a day with medicated soap, and still can't get rid of my oily skin! Does anyone have any ideas of what I could use? My skin gets dry really easily as well, Im just trying to find a good mid ground. I guess I have combination skin?

Oh wow, someone with skin exactly like mine!

There isn't really a foundation that will stay matte all day long, but the one that I've found that stays matte the longest (I usually just powder my t-zone every 3 hours) is Clinique Clarifying Makeup.

It's really smooth and natural, but it controls oil and shine pretty well. Usually, my forehead gets disgustingly shiny about an hour after I wash my face. But it takes about 5 hours for my face to get qually shiny if I'm wearing Clinique Clarifying Makeup.

Still, it's best to use powder after liquid foundation because it helps set the foundation so it stays, and it helps matte your skin. If you don't want it to look cakey, have a big fluffy powder brush handy and dip it in loose powder, or swirl it in a pressed powder, lightly tap off the excess so you only have a little bit of it, and the dust it over your face. Too much powder looks bad.

And also, instead of using powder every time to touch up, get a pack of oil-blotting sheets, like Clean and Clear oil-blotting sheets. It take away the shine without caking or removing your foundation, and if you put on just a little bit of powder on afterwards, you'll look as matte as when you first put on your makeup.

    Hope that helped!

As a professional makeup artist for over 20 years I highly recommend 2 products both from bee luscious cosmetics their pore perfecting face primer and liquid minerals foundation there will be no oily skin for about a good 12 -15 hours and they also have a product called ultimatte T-zone mattifier now that is the most amazing product I have ever used it will not allow any oil products at all its wonderful.

Do you use a toner or astringent to help cut down the oilies? What moisturizer are you using? Use an oil-free one like Clean and Clear Dual Action Oil Free.

I use Revlon colorstay for normal/combo skin and have for years. I put it on and after about 2-3 minutes, I set it with powder before putting on the rest of my makeup.

cleanse your skin every night and morning. you are sopose to put a powder kind of make up on your face to help with oilyness, the reason why your face looks cakey is because your not moisturizing your face enough before applying a foundation, you should try MAC. (remember to put an oil free moisturizer) and even though your skin is oily you still have to moisturize it.

i am 25 and my face still gets just as oily as it did as a teen. It greatly improved (pimples too) when i changed to Bare Minerals powder makeup. Alot of brands make the mineral make-up now. Try that first. And during the day when i am at work i use (this is weird but it works) post-its to blot my face. I swear, i dont know what made me do it one day but it sucks up the oil better than those pricy oil pads and they are free cause work supplies them!

I have the same problem as you. I find if I use any liquid foundation my face just ends up looking oiler. I get dry skin very easily as well. AquaSmooth by Covergirl worked very well for me. But, at the moment I use L'Oreal Bare Natural. I find it works very well for my skin. It never looks oily and it doesn't give me dry spots.

    1. DO NOT USE that liquid foundation with your skin , because powder and the liquid foundation mgiht be causing your oily skin.

    2. Use a normal foundation and some blush.

If that does not work , apply some NORMAL cream, on your face and/or apply some blush and NORMAL foundation

( if that does not work , feel free to send me an email )

    Measures to avoid Oily Skin

Drink plenty of water at least 8-10 glasses per day.

    Avoid smoking.

Have a healthy and balanced diet.

Use baby powder to dab your face as it works better than many other productsYou can rub oily areas with apple cider vinegar for a neutralizing effect.

Use of hot water more often as it is a great solvent.

To avoid oily skin apply fresh smashed tomatoes on your face.

The first step of having an oil-free skin is to clean your face with gentle face wash to remove excess oil and dirt. Wipe your face with astringent lotion as it is a fat and grease solvent. The astringent should have acetone and should also be alcohol free. Later apply a watery moisturizer to keep your skin smoothRemove excess moisturizer by dabbing a tissue over it.

Blend 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal, 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1/2 cup mashed apple into a smooth paste. Apply this paste on your face for 15 minutes, later rinse it.

You can apply mud packs or clay masks on your face which helps in soaking oil from the skin. This may provide a temporary relief as the long term effects is inconclusive.

Egg Mask: Blend 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon camphor spirit, 1 tablespoon skim milk powder and a drop of mint essential oil.

Before applying the mask, apply odorless castor oil. Apply the mask, keep it for 15 minutes; wash it off with warm water to be rinsed by apple cider vinegar and water / witch hazel solution.

Grate a cucumber and keep it in the fridge. Apply this grated chilled cucumber on your face for 15 minutes. Use this at least twice a week for a clean and clear face.

Cucumber can also be used in juice form mixed with lemon juice. Apply this mixture half-an-hour before you take a bath. The proportion would be 1/2 a tsp each of cucumber and lemon juice.

Get a facial sauna by using herbs such as lemongrass, licorice root and rosebuds. Keep it in simmer, 2 to 4 tablespoons of fresh or dried herbs in 2 quarts of water.

Once you see the steam cover your face over it. To entrap the steam, cover your head with a damp towel and be in that position for 15 minutes. Later wash your face with cold water and dab it dry.

Some sort of mineral foundation would probably work well for you. I would recommend Bare Minerals but there are others out there just google "mineral make up".
