What are some good audio books for children btw 4 and 8 years of age?
I can only find books for older kids.
And where would I purchase them?
Also, I need to play them in the car not on my computer.

There are a lot of Beverly Cleary audio books good for that age and I know that the following website has some of her books. http://www.randomhouse.com/audio/

Between 4 and 8 is kinda tough because tastes are so different at those ages..for little kids, the I Can Read series is available in book&tape sets. Frog and Toad, Amelia Bedelia, that sort of thing. You can get them at B&N, or on amazon. For 8 year olds, I second the suggestion of anything by Beverly Cleary; also Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing and the Fudge books by Judy Blume. For both of them, if they like scary stories, Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark is a collection by Alvin Schwartz. The pictures are very scary, way too scary for 4 year olds I think, but the stories themselves are not that bad, and my students can't get enough of them.

You'll find audio books at a large bookstore, suitable for play in a car, at stores like Barnes and Noble or Borders. Ask a clerk where they are, and you might as well ask this clerk for an opinion on favorites for kids the ages you're referring to while you're at it.
It's a long time since I had a kid that age, and I dealt with cassette tapes of music and that was it. Music is a good thing.
Books for those ages? Okay.
I remember a series about 'Madeleine,' a little girl who was always in fancy places, traveling...
There is 'Babar' for younger,
'The Indian in the Cupboard' by Lynne Reid Banks for everybody,
'The Five Children and It' by E. Nesbit for everybody (she was a great writer... Banks is good, too),
Any Dr. Seuss book for younger,
'The Little House on the Prairie' by Laura Ingalls Wilder for older,
'Black Beauty' for a bit older (written from the horse's point of view, and there are a few abuse issues) by Anna Sewell,
'Charlotte's Web' by E.B. White for everybody,
And happy traveling.
Good luck--

Terry Pratchett has some good stuff. I don't know if his Bromeliad trilogy is available in audio, but his Tiffany Aching books might be. Check Amazon.com, the first title is The Wee Free Men.

1. Simms Taback's Big Book of Words by Simms Taback, Hardcover: 96 pages, Publisher: Blue Apple Books
Basic objects in a child's world -- playthings, clothing, food, and animals -- are featured in this generiously-sized, bright, colorful book. The one-word-per-page format is perfect for keeping baby's attention and teaching them to start identifying words with images. Taback's illustrations are sure to delight young children, from baby, to toddler, to preschooler and adults.
2. Olivia's Opposites by Ian Falconer, Board book: 12 pages, Publisher: Atheneum
Olivia knows all about opposites. Sometimes this porcine heroine of Ian Falconer's Caldecott Honor Book, Olivia, is "plain," attired only in red briefs. Other times she is "fancy," with high-heeled dress-up shoes, lipstick, pearls, and a big red bow. Sometimes when Olivia is running the circus, for example she is very "loud" with a lion, which renders the lion rather "quiet." Whether meeting this energetic and incorrigible piglet for the first or the 100th time, readers of all ages will be happy to watch Olivia do pretty much anything, even something as simple as counting (Olivia Counts) or teaching about opposites. This sturdy little board book, with lots of white space and black-and-white illustrations, splashed with occasional red, is a perfect introduction to the concepts of opposites, from "up" and "down" to the "open" and "closed" mouth of our yawning, pajama'd pig at the conclusion. Would she be interested in a lite brite? There are also neat gingerbread house kits in stores even a gingerbread train. I know you said she doesn't like toys...but I did a quick search for "gifts for children with autism" and pulled up a lot of websites.
