question about ordering online?

i was just wondering how safe it is to order online. i'm kind of paranoid about giving my personal info such as credit cards and what not , are there any other ways i can do this? unfortunately the shoes i want to get say 'online only'. i'm ordering something from this site:

http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/index.jsp

but my question is, is it safe to be given out my credit card numbers and such? and, if not, are there other safer ways to order?

Most sites have secure pages where you give your personal info. If the page is not secure, don't do it. There is also the option of PayPal. You can set up an account through them with your information, they are a very secure and reputable site, and make your purchases with PayPal. Then PayPal will charge your credit card or whatever account you set up with them.

I find out what I want online and then I call up the company and place the order by credit card with a live operator. It's the safest way.

Depending on what credit card company you use, you may be able to get a temporary account number that is generated with the card comapny and linked to your account. The benefit is that you use this account number instead of your real one and the merchant can only use it once and cannot get any other information. Try calling and asking the bank.

Good question. To be safe check the settings on your web browser you can increase the level of security yourself. If you are asked to provide confidential data look for the padlock icon on your browser, this reflects an encrypted page. There are no absolute guarantees out there, so stick with major corporations and websites you can check out with BBB, etc. Never provide user ID's or passwords to them.

The only difference is i think you can pay online with a credit or debit card.... you can only order online with pizza hut though if you have a nearby pizza hut that only delives (no eating in option)

Check if the order page is secure and encrypted, it should be preceded by https:// . Also check the background of the company

alway make sure there is a security lock icon at the bottom of the web page...which means a secure site..and make sure it is a popular site, like jcpenneys, belks, etc..if it doesn't have the security lock on it, don't do it.....
