Good choice. It´s better go now than in summer time, much more relax. You may land in Nice and rent a car from there. Train (High Speed Train) also possible to Toulon.

Many nice places to visit-Saint-Tropez of course, but also Gassin; Grimaud; Ramatuelle; Bormes les Mimosas. On the seaside there is a very nice trail from La Croix Valmer/Gigaro to Saint-Tropez (need a fullday for this). In le Rayol Canadel there is a wonderful garden , worth a visit ("jardins du domaine du Rayol"). You may also spend a day in the Levant Islands (Port-Cros; Porquerolles), starting from Le Lavandou or from Hyeres (1 day).

If I were coming from the US and didn't want to spend time in Paris, I would buy the flight directly to Nice and rent a car from there. How the heck are you ending up in Le Var? That highway out of Nice is going to blow you away. Hope you don't mind heights. I don't think a train runs up that way and you want a car for the exploring freedom.

Most excellent place to stay and visit I would think.. A day trip or two to Aix en Provence, hit the open Market early in the main square, and if you are lucky one of the other smaller ones, (I'll leave you to look up Aix en Provence open markets and all there is to see and do there. Some fantastic food to be found as well.

Another day trip to Sisterone and Gap. They aren't too far from Le Var and I think you'll enjoy.

Of course you can go back to Nice as well and spend time there. It is a big city. I certainly got messed up a few times there. But .. well it's Nice... French Mediterranean what more to say.

Also a bit further I would recommend Goudes, Cavaillon, Avingnon, and L'Isle Su-le Sorgue.

Man I wish I was you. All these places can be found on various web sites. enjoy!

Train or a flight. Go with something like Ryanair if you fly - very cheap
