What do chocolate eggs have to do with Easter?
Is it simply yet more money making commercialism?

Easter is in fact a combination of several pagan festivals most notably the spring festival. Even the name Easter comes from “Eastre” an Anglo-Saxon pagan goddess
The egg and the rabbit are symbols of springtime and rebirth!
The real thing would be messy and probably a health hazard so chocolate is a much nicer and cleaner alternative but keeps the pagan symbolism!!!

The egg symbolizes new birth
I don't know why we have chocolate ones tho
Someone realized they could make money I suppose
But in the "old Country" I was told that on Saturday before Easter they would take baskets of food to be blessed.

Jesus dies on the Jewish Calendar date of Nisan 14 the day of the Passover. This doesn't always correspond to it being a Friday in our gregorian calander but Church tradition rather than Bible accuracy prevails since Easter is the hijacking of a pagan Spring festival to the goddess of Eostre.
Jesus actually anniversary of his death for this year falls today, Saturday 22nd March 2008 and his resurrection anniversary would be Monday 24th March.
The easter eggs and bunnies are pagan symbols from the original meaning of Easter and symbolise fertility and birth.
The Passover which is the anniversary of Jesus death is not observed by most Churches and goes by unnoticed and instead a pagan day is chosen to celebrate Jesus' resurrection.
Kingdom halls this Saturday the world over at their sundowns will be observing the Passover of the Memorial of Jesus Christ. Millions of people who are not Jehovah's Witnesses attend them also and all are welcome.

yes thats what it bolis down to. Basically we used to use real eggs symbolising new birth and the spring etc and then the chocolate companies found out that they could make an egg from chocolate and the rest is history
I am glad they found out though
\happy easter to you..
