How accurate is dream interpretation?

I noticed there's a section on Y!A called dream interpretation. I myself have asked and answered there before, but are dream interpretations all guesses of what dreams mean? Do dreams really have meaning, or are they just random thoughts that occur as we sleep? What is a dream, and how accurate is dream interpretation?

Honestly... I think the dream interpretation should be left up to the dreamer. After all its about that person's dream being the mind's reflection right? So who better to interpret then the mind who projected that dream in the first place. Sometimes I find that if I've had a really intense dream, that when I think about it, I can't help to think of exactly what it means. In a way, it's really therapeutic.

Dreams seem to be the your mind expressing the things that sometimes you push into your subconscious (or other times it can be very clear what you're dreaming about - for example the exam you have the next morning)... but other times they're so damned foggy that you have no idea whats going on. Sometimes other people can give you insight into what you dreamt about and what you were thinking about...

who knows? All I know is that dreams are amazing things..

Dreams are sometimes given by the Lord to show where you need improvement in life. The interpretation of such dreams is true, but only if the interpreter has guidance from the Lord. Other dream interpreters that have a lot of experience can come close, but if there is direct guidance from the Lord concerning those dreams that are consistant with a dream that is given BY him, then the interpretation will hit a soft spot on the person's soul. The interpretation will be perfect.

Many will not agree with me, and I never answer questions with regard to dreams that are simply the mind replaying the day. I also do not believe that any interpretation I give is mine, but belongs to Christ. There are instances in the Bible of 2 dream interpreters, Joseph and Daniel.

I will not say that ALL dreams have meaning. Some are, as you say, random thoughts occuring as you sleep. Should you have one with deeper meaning, do not be afraid to voice it. You will know the true interpretation when you see it.

Yeah, just like i believe EVERY single fortune cookie I get haha. I mean, have you ever heard the saying, Even the blind bird catches the worm? or Put a million monkeys in a room and theyll eventually get the line, What light through yonder window break! Im not saying that dreams dont have meanings, but the interpretations are so vague sometimes how could they not be correct?!? I mean, I had a dream that i was flying with an umbrella in an open sky which could be interpreted into Homosexuality was my way to freedom. (freudian theory) Especially if you dont believe in a god that can instill us with the sense of the subconcious. Which like it or not, is what deep sleep is.

There are common symbols that seem to come up often in dreams. These become easier to interpret with practice. But of course not everyone wants to devote themselves to learning dream symbols, so it sometimes helps to ask others' opinions. The dreamer though is the only one who knows what is going on in their life and what interpretation rings true.

For example, teeth falling out is a common archetype. It could mean anxiety about growing older, it could mean a loss of power, or it could mean you've been hurt. Other people can point the common meanings out to you but only you know which of those -- or something else entirely -- you're going through right now.

We are still trying to figure out why we dream, but we do know that if you don't dream for extended periods of time, your memory is shot, so it seems a way to incorporate and categorize what's going on now with your prior memories. It also seems to be a way feelings you can't deal with awake get to manifest themselves. Ever panicked in a dream? Those emotions are REAL, you just suppress them during the day!

Dreams can often be interpreted on many levels or with many purposes. I think it's really interesting, and actually dreams have helped me understand myself and get through some difficulties better.

Dream interpretation is way to speculative to have much accuracy. since an interpretation depend solely on how someone understands the "symbols" and whatever meanings are assigned to those symbols, any number of conclusions can be made about a dreams underlying message. Not to forget to mention, symbol meanings often change.

You could give me a recounting of any dream you had and i could tell you an infinite amount of things that the dream could represent for you simply because the interpretation of the "unconscious" is so flexible and vague.

The accuracy of any dream interpretation depends on how accurately it connects to how you feel about your dream. Dreams are your unconscious mind talking to you in impressions and images. One dream can be saying 1,000 different things or can be 1 very specific thing(like what will happen tomorrow)

I think whoever says dream interpretation is true is a fucikng retard who probably believes in sigmund frueds stupid subconcious mind ********. Dreams are what we might have thought about in reality or something we've seen, whether if its an hour long reflection, or just a passing thought. I read many moronic so called "dream interpretations" online and all of them sound like a load of ********. One says apparently if you're undressing in your dream it means you're gay?!?!?!?! How does that even remotely make sense.

Nothing in life is accurate to an infallible degree. But there are folks who study these things and chart the incidences of certain dreams with what's going on in a person's life and they can make a damn fine assessment as to what certain dreams represent.

No matter what though, dreams are our way of mentally venting, and bringing order like a computer that's cleaning out its own temporary and unneeded files. The computer that is our brains is at work constantly even in unconsciousness to help us vent, help us to release, help us to problem solve, to confront, to cope and to acquire a sense of restoration from everyday life. As a result, our dreams are mostly a compilation of nonsensical things. While others, truly can be quite meaningful to us in our waking lives.

For all those who do not believe in dreams [and its there right ] dreams will never mean nothing ; its just like people who doesn't believe a psychologist can help them with their problems ; simple as that

There is no correlation between events that have happened or will happen and dreams that you have. Psychologists have only linked dreams with the memory storage process. So these crazy dreams you have are your body's way of storing the memories for the day.

Interpretations are still somewhat fun though.
