Jennifer lopez, breastfeeding, and the message she is sending out?

I found an article on Jennifer Lopez which infuriated me.

She went through IVF many times over, and all the while she had NEVER planned on even giving breastfeeding a shot.

This is her excuse --

“My mom didn’t breast feed and I think that was the thing for me. You read and figure out what’s the best thing for them.”

--- Simple as.

What the hell has she been reading? What world is she living in?

She also has a butler, and 2 nurses that look after her twins for her.

Please can somebody tell me, why the hell do women like this want babies in the first place?

Update:

NY_Attitude -- Not only Gwen Steffani, but also Pamela Anderson, Christina aguilera, and my personal favorite --- Maggie Gyllenhaal (Jakes sister) who proudly breastfed in PUBLIC and didn't try to hide herself with a blanket!

Update 2:

ha! yeah Betwixt, right after I took this picture I handed her to her nanny and told her where I keep the rice cereal... I'll pick her up in a couple of days, I need some ME time! ;)

Update 4:

Jessica C -- I thought of replying and explaning why you are wrong -- But it would take an enormous amount of time, as EVERYTHING you just typed is ridiculously.... well.... ridiculous.

-- Buy some books BTW

Lets give it 18 years, they will be doing interview saying how they were raised by the help, they hardly saw mum and dad as they were always travelling, the girl will have anorexia and drink and drug problems and the boy will be into drink driving and wild sex orgies all due to them having no parental imput.

Sounds all too familiar and its celebrity kids that it happens too.

I feel sorry for Jlo that she feels the need to continue her career instead of putting it on hold for a couple of years and being the mum she should be.

All the would be parents in the world who cant afford IVF and would love to hold their own precious bundle must be seething that someone like her should be able to have babies and have someone else take care of them.

I find it pathetic that people must look to a celebrity for inspiration and guidance.

Sure, I think it's lazy that she didn't at least attempt breastfeeding if she was physically and emotionally able. IF she had no other reason than "I just don't want to."

Going through IVF is a strenuous process, and carrying twins can also take its toll on the body. Some women are physically and emotionally exhausted after the procedures and the pain of infertility.

But then if she had some medical condition (or required medication) that rendered breastfeeding contraindicated, then what is the likelihood that she would release that information to the public?

People will say all kinds of things to justify their actions, whether good or bad. Sure, she could have breastfed with a full staff to help her, but chances are great that she had some other reason she didn't want to share with the world.

It is like their babies are trophies. I dont know, all the challenges us mothers go through, the battles at the start with breastfeeding, the sleepless nights etc. Do they just skip out of this because they are celebs and have the money to pay for their children to be looked after??

Why would she go through all that and not go through all the stuff that makes us the strong mothers that we are?

The breastfeeding issue, well i breastfed my baby and i would have gone longer but after mastitis twice and all the pain i just had to give up, However i will never ever judge someone on if they want to breastfeed or not , i do think they should AT LEAST give feeding the baby the colostrum a go.

    Just my 5c

Even Nicole Ritchie is breastfeeding her daughter. My mom gets People magazine for her business, and I was perusing the issue with Nicole on the cover, the last time I was there. I'm quite impressed she's breastfeeding, using cloth diapers, and raising the baby without a nanny doing all the work while she parties (ie. Britney Spears).

After getting past the point that she never intended to try, I see a couple of reasons why it just may not work well for her. First, she has twins, and even though it is done often, it is difficult to nurse twins. Secondly, nursing requires being with your babies pretty much constantly so that they can nurse when they need to. Being a celebrity I imagine this is difficult. So, unless she is going to tote her babies around with her and nurse them on demand all day long, she probably wouldn't be able to make enough milk in the first place.

BUT... that doesn't excuse it. She wanted to have children and wanted to be able to take care of them, yet this article makes it sound like she is handing them off to someone else. She has the babies, which is enough. Now... someone else gets to take care of them.

Having children has become such a medicalised thing in our society, so divorced from the natural process it should be.... i sometimes think that women lose touch with their instincts and have no idea what is for the best anymore.

Breast feeding is incredibly hard work but i wouldn't have it any other way for my 8 week old and i wouldn't have a nanny looking after her, regardless of how much money i had. Obviously, each mother needs to find what works for her but i do feel sad for mum's who miss out on all the aspects of motherhood purely because my experience of it has been so magical!

Exactly... what the hell has she been reading! Comments like that only serve to undermine the importance of breastfeeding and perpetuate the myths. That's what really bugs me... fine, you're not breastfeeding, but don't imply that it is the "best thing for them" based on what you've read! I feel like pulling my hair out anytime someone uses the excuse "just as good." If nothing else, just accept that you've made a less than optimal choice and keep your mouth shut. Why discourage other women? It's unfortunate that what she says/does has some social influence, which makes her comments even more inappropriate.

    Yeah, I agree with you.

I get so tired of people that feel sorry for the poor, overpaid celebities. Come on! Most of them have more money then God, they can take as much time out as they want to care for their new babies and not have to worry about foreclosures, utilities being shut off, and starving to death. I'm pretty sure that most of us don't have that luxury.

    It's pathetic, isn't it?

Let me start off by saying I did breastfed my son but I have friends who did not breastfed and they still love their children. Yes breastfeeding is great for babies but just because a mother chooses not to does not mean she should not want or love her baby. There are much worse things a mother could do. Locally (Peoria, IL) about a month ago a couple left their 5 month old baby in a car seat for 8 days never checking on it or feeding him. THe autopsy said he died after 5 days.

I really don't get the whole "let me have a baby to hand it to a nanny" theory.

Money Schmoney...WTF? She gives moms like me...who work because WE have to...but would kill to spend all or time with our babies...something to be mad about.

Hey pretty lady...you look like Nicole Ritchie in your avatar w/ dem shades ;) Loves it.
