How do you flip a chicken?
Hi there!
I've got to be doing something wrong here -- I'm always having a hassle when flipping whole poultry over in its pot. There I'll be, just basting a turkey, chicken, cornish game hen, you name it... and then I'll have to turn it over. I usually wind up doing it with carving utensils, which utterly destroys the skin and makes a huge mess.
How do you flip a bird over in a pot without damaging it?

I don't know anyone that flips a chicken. There is no reason to in my mind. The skin is going to break and let moisture out of the breast, and become dry....Cook covered and uncover the last 15 mins of baking. You can baste it a couple of times and being covered it also bastes while it's cooking.
Bake at 325 for approx. 1 hour or like someone else said,250 degrees for 6 hrs.
Oil and season the chicken before baking....

bigger BBQ tongs will work fine on a Cornish hen, or small chicken, but you'd need mighty big ones to get around a turkey!! I take the whole turkey out of the oven, and stick 2 giant serving forks in the side, and have my husband help me flip the darned thing over...that's probably why I only make turkey a couple of times a year!! (what a pain:) ... I DO put all my poultry on racks in the pan though, so you can actually get under the chicken/game hen a little easier....

I don't flip mine.I slow roast it at 250 degrees for 6 hours and never touch it,basting it occationally with the broth in the bottom of the pan. When done,it can't be picked up.

A big serving spoon up its bum, and the carving fork at the other end to steady it, and then neatly flip it.

Try to stick something big like a rolling pin into the cavity of the bird and turn it over that way.

Use two forks. Put one into the cavity and prod it at the other end and rotate carefully.

that is truly impossible it would be way
to heavy to lift. u will hafta cut it but then u don't really have to flip some chicken anyways

I use wooden spatulas that are designed for tossing salad, but then I don't cook chickens very often because I think they're boring. But wooden spatulas (spatulae? spatuli?) seem to work.

I use my hands, you should try that too.
