What can I do for recent circumstances not mentioned on the FAFSA?

I already filed my 2008-2009 FAFSA, and got a notice saying I was ineligible for their grant - understandable, since my parents' 2007 tax returns listed us as "high" income. Problem is, my father recently became unemployed. Any financial aid that I apply for only looks at our 2007 tax returns and thereby assumes that we don't need anything - but as of this moment, we have almost no money to pay for my next semester. Are there any grants available that will look at our *current* financial situations? Does anyone know anything we can do?

Contact your schools financial aid office and tell them you have "special circumstances" and that your father has recently become unemployed and would like your fafsa reviewed. They will likely as for his lay-off letter and further documentation about his unemployment benefits.

I've never known anyone to become eligible for Pell grants after this process when they weren't before the layoff, but I suppose its worth a try. At the very least, they will offer you a federal student loan so you can pay for your school and don't have to quit until your dad gets another job.

    Good luck.

Your fathers severance pay may be listed on your fafsa.... so which you would be able to seek advice from the college approximately specific circumstances, even even though it prob won't help. in case you get no reaction from the college, you need to do it at as quickly as so which you meet all cut-off dates. once you record returned next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, you need to get supplies you, yet while your mom develop into and keeps to artwork complete time, you nevertheless ought to no longer qualify for supplies you. i do no longer think of i've got ever seen a fin help director replace a fafsa that made them by surprise eligible to get a furnish while they weren't already... the only ones i've got seen authorized merely advance the furnish quantity they have been already eligible for.
