I need a driver for my DVD/CD drive!!?
I have the HP dv6646us and all of a sudden my DVD/CD drive stopped working, the drive itself is ok, but the computer does not recognize it. I uninstalled the driver for it to see if i could reinstall it, but i cannot find the drivers for it anywhere/ the model is:
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L
if you can give me a link to the driver or perhaps you have the file on your pc or laptop and you could email it to me please,
thanks

This a common problem not yet resolved in Windows Vista. There is a fix, but some software may need to be reinstalled after.
1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
Link below shows the same steps, the registry key above seems cut off.
You won't have to reinstall any drivers. Good luck.

I think you made a mistake in the model number, as Lite On has NO such model in their product list. As an 'internal' drive it uses the standard windows drivers for CD which are in win98, but (if I remember correctly), it requires USB 2.0 for 'external' use, and that requires a USB2.0 MB or add-on card with the USB2.0 drivers which are NOT in win98. THEN win98 should be able to find it for CD. The necessary drivers for DVD, etc. are USUALLY installed by the burning and/or playing software, as win98 does NOT have them.

Windows must recognize you DVD/CD drive automatically. I think your problem is not drive problem, will be hardware problem.
I experience similar problem with my Compaq v3000, drive bay opens and looks is fine, but actually was damaged. You need contact HP if your computer is still under guarantee, in my case they took the computer and keep it 3 months before replace by a brand new HP Pavilion dv5000.
