ALGEBRA 1 area question URGENT!!!!!!!?
Let w= the width
A poster is 20cm longer than it is wide. It is mounted on a piece of cardboard so that there is a 10 cm border on all sides. If the area of the border is 2400 cm squared, what is the area of the poster?
Please tell me how you did it!
Thanks in advance!!!!!

w = width
l = length = w + 20
If the border is 10 cm wide and the border area is 2400, then the border perimeter = 2400/10 = 240
perimeter = 2w + 2l = 2w + 2(w +20) = 4w + 40 = 240
4w = 200 w = 50, l =70
Area = w * l = 50 * 70 = 3500 cm^2

w = width of poster
w+20 = length
cardboard = 10+W+10 = W+20
cardboard length = L+20= w+20+20 = w+40
Finally boarder area =cardboard - poster = 2400
poster = w(w+20)
cardboard = (w+40)(w+20) = w^2+60w+800
w^2+60w+800-w^2-20w = 2400
40w = 1600
w = 40, l = 60, A= 2400
CB = 60 x 80 = 4800
diff = 2400 looks like it's OK

Area of poster x(x+20)
area of cardboard (x+20)( x+40) (adding 10 to each side or 20 to the length, 20 to the width)
Then, (x+20)(x+40) - x (x+20) =2400
x^2 +60x +800 -x^2 -20x = 40x +800 =2400
40x =1600
x= 40
40 (40 +20) = 40(60) = 2400

w = width of poster
w+20 = length of poster
w(w+20) = w^2 +20w = area of poster
w+20 = width of border
w+40 = length of border
(w+20)(w+40) = w^2 +60w +800 = area of border + poster
w^2+60w+800 -(w^2+20w) = 2400
40w = 1600
w = 40
Area of poster = w^2+20w = 1600 + 800 = 2400 cm^2
The areas of the poster and the border are each 2400 cm^2

l = w + 20
(w+10)(w+30) - w(w+20) = 2400
w^2 + 40w + 300 - w^2 - 20w = 2400
20w = 2100
w = 105
l = 125
area = 105 * 125 = 13125
