Japan residents. How do you explain K.Y in one sentence?

Please, no jelly jokes.

K.Y. means kuuki yominai. This slang word has been the rage in Japan for the past few months. Someone explained it as someone who laughs at a funeral. Is there a broader description?

    Kuuki = air, atmosphere

    Yomenai = can't read

    KY can be used when you saw a person who can't understand/read the situation or how someone feels at that moment.

    KY means someone who doesn't read situations and does things he/she wants to do without thinking of others. As you said, this is slang so is not in the Japanese dictionary. I think it's going to disappear soon like other slang does. Slang is always short-lived.

    Hope it helps.

    Simply put, KY would be someone who is clueless.

    Like the example you gave where someone who would laugh at a funeral. KY would be someone who does not have ability to apply proper social manners in any situation.
