How do I tell my husband?

My husband is an avid meat-eater. I really like animals, and I don't want to eat them anymore. He always makes fun of vegetarians and vegans. How do I tell him that I don't want to eat meat anymore?

If you do the cooking, just start cooking vegetarian meals. Eventually he will ask what's going on and you can bring it up. Generally men will eat whatever is put in front of them because most cannot be bothered to get up and start cooking for themselves.

If he does get up to cook himself a steak, that's great. You've just trained him that if he wants it, he's going to have to cook it himself. I've done that successfully with two men now and so has my sister ;o)

As the others have said, as your husband, he should support you in your decision. Other than you not cooking his meat, it won't impact him in any way. The guys from the last two relationships I was in are much more aware now and cook vegetarian food well!

They actually eventually become your biggest supporters once they become informed. I heard both of them in discussions with their mates giving a good argument for vegetarianism - and saying that the food tastes good (luckily I'm a good cook - another helpful factor!!).

All that men need is a bit of logic. If it makes sense, they go with it. So do some research, give him good reasons and as long as he realises that your decision won't affect him much at all, he'll be fine.

Good luck - make sure you take the flying leap and do it!

I'm having the same problem with my parents! They think vegetarians are crazy and don't know that I decided to go veg. I don't care if my parents eat meat or not but I think they might judge me as being a hippy (my family is super conservative).

Maybe just start cooking dinner...but use meat substitutes like...veggie corndogs! Those are awesome! He'll probably notice the difference but then just tell him your beliefs. Don't make a huge deal out of it though or he might start...I don't know. He just won't follow you as well. Just say that you're not going to eat meat anymore and encourage him to do the same but don't go into, "You're my husband and you should do what I want." sort of thing.

I would break it to him gently - tell him your not liking meat anymore and just mention it throughout the rest of the week - then tell him you have made a personal decision you need to make sure he understands... My only concern is that you don't try to take away his meat, he might not understand that much! Just break it to him gently - its funny because I could really go without eating meat, and always find myself telling my husband I would be totally happy not eating meat... I can live on carbs and veggies and be totally happy! LOL~ I always want bread, pastas, potatoes, all my veggies before I touch the meat on my plate - so he wouldn't be too shocked to hear I cut meat out completely...Only problem is I would have less to eat or more to cook if I cut out meat from my diet! LOL~ Good luck hun, I think your gonna be ok...just don't expect him to change with you.

i think that the best thing to do would be to just talk to him, if he's a good husband he will still understand. i wouldnt advise trying to get him to stop eating meat though.

tell him that you have had enough meat to last you a lifetime...like you overdid it or something. this does happen- it happened with both my parents- they simply did not want to eat meat anymore!

Is only 3 friends enough if they're good/true friends?

You should just tell him. If he's good-natured, he should respect your choice (even though he might not agree with it!)

Just tell him. He should respect your choices, and what you believe in. He's your husband!
