Why names of attached files to emails sometimes changed?

Sometimes I receive emails with files attached and their names are totally changed to gibrish or just a long underline. What cause this change and is there a way to prevent it?

Update:

to Geo:

No viruses, no different countries, no long names; just simple names sent from my own country. I type and read many languages, I know how to change the view. This is not the problem.

Thank you anyway :)

You don't say whether these attachments are coming in on emails from overseas. It's possible that the names of the files are encoded in another language (Farsi, Urdu, Arabic, Russian) which doesn't use the same alphabet as we do.

The only other legiut time attachment names can be changed by your ISP is when the filenames concerned are too long to fit their server requirements. I'd certainly think about giving your ISP a ring and asking them why this is happening......

One tip before you do so though--make sure you've done virus/adware scans on your system first. I can lay you money that this will be their first getout clause. YOU need to make sure they don't get that chance.

    Good luck
