mirena questions. please answer if you have used or am using this now please. i need accurate information?

i want to knwo abt mirena. on first person accounts. i am 18, am engaged, have had sex with 1 perso. only still with him. im on depo. i wanted to do implanon bu tmy gyn said try mirena. i have not had a child. i am curious because reading other answers i am seeing that women have been in pain and lost their periods from it, and one woman even knocked it out of place when having sex with her husband. i do want kids in the future. i actually want 3. i am starting college next year and dont want them now. is ther eother information anyone can give me about their stories of mirena?? anything can help. i am very nervous. i am not comfortable with a tiny piece of plastic inside me to keep me from being pregnant. my mom is also pressuring me int ogetting it. what can anyone tell me about this type of birth control. the site doesnt give first hand stories. remember that i am relying on your accounts so be honest please.

Update:

I just saw my gyn 2day and she didnt tell me much xcept tht its uncomfortable at first. she said tht its got the same stats as tubes ties. im just afraid tht if i have it for too long it wil lcause me to not be able to have kids later on. she did not let me ask abotunegatives, when i did, she changed the subject.

Update 2:

i dont understand something. ppl keep talking about getting some cord cut. explain please? my doctor didnt go into detail with me. and can having sex knock it out of place?

Hi! I'm 23 and I had the Mirena inserted almost 4 weeks ago. Because I haven't had a baby, it was really painful at first. My gyno told me that it would be one sharp pain and that was it....WRONG! It was so severe I had her stop...the nurse held my hand (ha) and I took a deep breath and she pushed it the rest of the way in. I almost passed out. I starting vomitting and had diarrhea immediately. But, I went home and rested...I cramped really bad for the first and second day. The thrid day was better, still sore. But then it eventually gets much better.

I chose mirena over the pill because it does cause lighter periods. I haven't had one yet. So, I dont know about that. But, I do know others that have the IUD and they don't have a period at all...yes please!!!! :)

AFter the Mirena is removed, you can get pregnant immediately. It does not cause long term damage to anything to keep you from having children.

Also, during sexual intercourse I did have a really sharp pain and we stopped. But, I dont think it's possible for him to knock it out of place. The IUD is inserted beyond your cervix and "most" men are not able to go that far.

But anyway, I'm kind of nervous about having it removed, I realize that is 5 years away, but the pain was intense getting it inserted. I dont want to go through that again. But, I have heard it isn't that bad...just a tug.

Keep in mind, it will cause cramping the first couple of days of insertion and removal because they open your cervix to do both....and that stretches and does cause lower abdomen cramping!

I would recommend Mirena as a birth control form. But each woman is different. Just know that it does hurt, but just like they told me in the Dr's office...the pain is worth it!!! So far, it is true!!!!

Seriously, I hope this helped!!!! Good luck!

An iud has "strings" or "cords" that hang into your cervix so when it is time to have the IUD removed they use the "Strings" to remove it. You can't feel the strings unless you insert your fingers far into your cervix.

It is painful to have the mirena inserted, It is like having horrible cramps, you will have cramping and spotting for the first two weeks.

I have had my mirena for 4 years now, I barely have a period, I don't have to worry about pills, you don't have the same side effects as depo since the depo goes straight to your uterus.

I did have mood swings when I first went off the pill and got the iud but after a month all has been smooth sailing.

You won't even feel the iud, it's not what you think it's going to be like, It is very rare for it to be knocked out (my boyf is very big in that area and the worst thing that has happened is he could feel the strings)

I did have some problems with acne at first but after changing facial cleansers I have cleared that problem up.

Just because your mother is pressuring you don't get it if you honestly think you will be uncomfortable with it, the chances of becoming steril are next to nothing, Your doctor will explain all of this to you. The chances of becoming pregnant are over 99.999%

I will have to have my mirena removed next year (they last 5) and I plan to have another one, I have had extremely good luck with mine.

i have had the mirena in for 1.5 years now. I've only had a period maybe 4 times but they have been really light only lasting a day and the amount of blood would not even fill a small tampon. I've had only one problem with it. when i first got it in the cord was too long and my partner could feel it while having sex and he said it hurt him. i just went back to the clinic and they cut it shorter. I've had no really pain, i still get slight period pain but that's it. I dont want to sound horrible or be judged but I've had 8 terminations due to failed contraception before. so far on mirena so good! they told me they were concerned about giving it to me because i am so young (23) not as young as you, but with having terminations that can leave scaring too. I think it's great, lasts 5 years, and I'd rather have this than go through another termination. I work with children and know how hard they are, so I'm all for it. Your Dr would not let you have the mirena if they were really concerned!

    Good luck!

well i dont know exactly what you want to hear or know?. i dont want to scare you or anything because i really love it..when i first heard about it they i heard you could have your cervix numbed and that you needed to be on your period..but when i went in they told me to just take Excedrin 1 hour before for the cramping and that i wouldnt need to be on my period .so i took the excerin..(it didnt help at all). first she used this brown color stuff to sanitize the area and she swabbed this all around my cervix. then she inserted this metal stick thing to measure my uterus which was horribly uncomfortable oh mind you that i had never had period cramps in my life. it was like the period cramps from hell i had to take a break because i almost passed out(i think i tensed up too much). then she inserted another plastic tube thing that contained the mirena devise so i had to go through that pain again she clicked this button and i guess it popped into place. then that was it she gave me aspirin and i left..about a half hour after i started having horrible cramps and i went to buy those period heat pads that you use for cramps..it helped a little but over all i felt like the devise was going to come out the next day i was so scared i had gone through all that for nothing. it sounds bad but i think i was kind of a baby about it. i had a regular period once after getting it but after that it went to spotting for a couple hours to now not having a period at all which i dont mind.i dont know if thats a concern for you. my bf said that he could feel it in the beginning but now he doesnt but it is a little uncomfortable for me sometimes in certain positions when sorry for the TMI (he thrusts too hard) but other than that i love love love it. theres nothing to remember and no doctors visits so im very happy. and even with all the comfortableness that i went through i would do it again. i just suggest that you get a doctor that you feel really comfortable with and ask if you can be numbed up. if u have any more questions email me ndoziem@yahoo.com

  • Very weird that you ask this question as my wife and I just visited our nurse practitioner today to talk about mirena. We haven't used it yet but here is what we learned.

    - getting the implant requires local anastesia to the cervix

    - you'll have to be on your period when you get the implant placed

    - the website doesn't give an exact mechanism of action, but we were told it is very unlikely that an egg would be fertilized while using the implant.

Hope this little bit of info is helpful.
