I keep getting kidney stones. How can I prevent more of this torture?

Many sites say to cut back on animal protein. I'm already vegan, can't cut back any further than that! I cut my coffee back to less than a cup a day. My dark soda intake is negligible (I might indulge once or twice a month), and I don't drink very much other soda.

Last time I was able to have a stone tested, it was those damn oxalates.

I can't take much more of this, I'd rather be stabbed once a month.

You need to increase your fluid intake. Water is best. However, if that isn't enough, your doctor may prescribe a drug called Urocit. It will prevent kidney stones from forming or getting bigger.

    1) Sometimes oxalate or calcium oxalate stones form because there is not enough calcium in the intestines. Then, too much oxalate goes to the kidneys to be excreted.

If the physician has recommended a calcium controlled diet, the idea is to keep calcium intake within a narrow range, not too much and not too little, because the body needs a certain amount for maintaining important functions. On this diet, men are advised to limit calcium intake to 800 mg per day. Prior to menopause, women should limit calcium to 1000 mg per day; and after menopause, these women should have 1200 mg of calcium a day.

    2) increase fluid intake.

Actually, Pinkie may be correct. Drink lots of fluid. Like eight 8 oz. glasses of water a day. Squeeze some fresh lemon in it.

Drink enough during the day to urinate clear about every two to three hours (without forcing it).

You may want to stop drinking 2 hours before bed (or so) to have an un-interrupted night's sleep.
