Why don't local stations broadcast "over the air" HD signals all day instead of just in the evenings?
The afternoon soaps not taped in HD being the reason doesn't make sense; because the news and other commercials certainly CAN and DO come in HD in the evenings. So they definitely can offer them all day in HD if they wanted to.

You are correct-there's no reason that new shows couldn't be in HD.
They simply haven't made the necessary investments. Not only do they have to upgrade the cameras and associated equipment, in some cases, they have to alter the sets.
The same thing happened when color TV was introduced. It took years before everything was changed-over to color.
Until there is a significant number of HD owners demanding HD content, things won't change.
Half of HDTV owners don't get their TV from an HD source.

They can only broadcast what the shows were taped in. Most of the daytime shows are not taped in HD or are older and were taped before HD was around. The evening shows are the newer shows and they are being taped in HD and therefore are broadcast that way.
