What's going to have to happen in the industry to get it to start breeding more superstars?

Who does the current youth have to look up to? They don't have Hendrix's, Jagger's, Pages, Tyler's, Cobain's, etc.... Where have all the heroes gone? Have we hit a wall? It's almost like everything has been done already....

Excellent question my friend. It's almost like because everything "heroish" has been done ... now the weirder the better. As if weird is a substitute for talent. (Look at Marilyn Manson if there is any doubt about this phenom ... sorry but I don't see the draw to those who try to look like the female walking dead and are famous solely based on their weirdness.)

Luckily we still do have Jagger and Tyler. And we have the other's music if all else fails. I haven't given up yet though ... and I think when all the weirdness gets old (and it will) we may find that we have some fresh new talent ready to change the world and our music with their greatness ... once again.

    Peace music man ...

    * Um ... you forgot Stevie Ray. And there's this guy ... Wrathe I think ... what about him? I hear he has some incredible talent with the guitar ... and is a shreddin' boarder on top of it! A hero in the making I tell you ...

Oh my dear sweet Wraithe.....I would imagine you more than anyone would know the answer to this......First of all "The industry" is just that ...an industry committed to the ALMIGHTY dollar...Are they solely to blame ? Absolutely not...It is the consumer as well as the artists themselves that must share the blame. For instance the young artist receives x amount of money to record an album on the condition he creates a " pop " version of his music in order to make it " main stream " Artist A: agrees to compromise musical integrity in order to make enough money to make the album his way. The public eats up his pop song, making him richer than he's ever dreamed and also more apathetic and complacent than he could of ever imagine. Artist B: gets a contract makes the album his way and it either gets buried in favor of talentless money makers OR gets released catches on and artist B is then seduced by the drug culture and crippled by the harsh realities of fame that he inevitably od's .Case in point Andrew Wood, lead singer of Mother Love Bone.....God he could have been great....he died from a heroin overdose two weeks before Apple came out. As for any future hero's ....do not despair , they are in fact coming ( unfortunately, however they will always be few and far between ) Let us not forget 80's hair bands gave way to Nirvana and I'm sure " bands " such as Panic, and Fall out Boy will give way to something greater . Timing is every thing and this will happen. My greatest concern though is not for those who break through but rather for those who do not. For every one successful superstar there are 20 more that are left behind and that my friend is damn near criminal. Hey sorry about the long response but the state of the music business is something I feel passionately about . I really feel it needs to be completely restructured for the benefit of EVERYONE....especially the consumers......oh yea and HAPPY FRIDAY....

People always say the ideas and the talent are used up. The new ideas and new talent will come. Hendrix and Cobain never walked on Earth together. They are years apart. Cobain's parents were wondering the same thing as you.

  • The big hero these days is money. "Artists" will do anything that is popular so they can rake in as much money as possible. Older bands like the Foo Fighters and Incubus have changed their sounds to a more emo/screamo (whatever the f*** you would call it, lol) style that the kids these days like more than their good, old sound.

Money is the great hero these days... but I still roll with Page, Clapton, Van Halen and even Muddy Waters. :)

I'm sure it's all my fault and I owe "the industry" a huge apology. So here it is: I'm so sorry. I have changed my lifestyle and stopped partying and going out. As a result, I have stopped having relations with women that could produce the superstars that the industry is missing. So.... there you have it.
