How can I create a SMALL summer-time lawn cutting service?
I'm working at a golf course this summer and will get done at 1pm. I would love to be able to start a small lawn cutting service in my neighborhood in my free afternoons. Nothing big, I wouldn't be buying mowers or anything, just using the customers. How should I get started and how can I gain customers legally (not putting flyers in mailboxes)?

I did this as a teenager so I hope my advice works. First, buy your own mower; it doesn't have to be top of the line. Start with your neighbors, if there is an elderly couple they would be happy to have you help. Most of my other customers followed. Many people would stop while I was mowing a lawn and ask me how much I charged. DO A GREAT JOB. Most of the rest of my customers came by word of mouth. REPUTATION, REPUTATION, REPUTATION. SHOW UP WHEN PROMISED, pay attention to detail. Do extras not asked for. For instance I carried grass clippers to get around trees. For your regular customers continue to cut in the fall when requested. You're back in school, you don't have a lot of time, but by being loyal to those few you will guarantee a solid base next spring. Good Luck.

Maybe pass out some flyers to local bussinesses to hang up. Like a community center around your house? I'm not sure what the laws are around you but you may want to spend a few day's walking door-to-door explaining to people what your doing. Even if you only get a few custormers, they might suggest you to their neighbors or any elder people who are looking for someone to cut their lawn.

First examine to make certain if there are any regulations on your section (state or city) that require a license to do artwork on commercial property as a lot of agencies require a bonded contractor to accomplish responsibilities using insurance reasons. extra- My spouse works for a nursery/panorama enterprise and for some reason we refer to a minimum of one yet another, so from what i will surmise from the cut back-throat/low-ball bidding that upkeep businesses do to a minimum of one yet another my own opinion could be to stay out of it and do exactly a good activity for the internal maximum sector.

Just speak with your neighbors. Present it in a professional manner.
Be aware. You are running a risk by relying on their equipment. Also, doing business with your immediate neighbors may not be wise. If something goes wrong, you will have to see and deal with them everyday.
