Porcupine Tree is good... Opeth's album "Damnation"... both kind of low beat and proggy with plenty of melody and smooth singing.

Check out Porcupine Tree's "Blackest Eyes" or "Trains" as beginner tracks... those are a great start

cant really think of any smooth voices at the mo but one of my fave bands are audioslave. chris cornell is a great singer, some of his solo stuff is good-the casino royale bond theme is one of his tracks.
