Broken Soldering Iron Tip?

I was recently soldering some wires together with an old soldering iron, and the tip broke, slipped onto the floor and melted my carpet. Is there any way I can fix this iron?

if it's an older one-piece design, throw it out and get another. If it's a "newer" design with replaceable tips, just unscrew what's left it the old tip and install a new one.

This is a very common problem with soldering irons that do not use plated tips. Even with plated tips, if the tip is not regularly remove, it may happen. You may be able to drill a hole in the remaining part and screw a self tapper in. However, I think since you have already been trying to get it out, it is completely frozen. Don't know how much you spent on the iron but if it used a copper bit, might be better to replace the whole iron. If you want to avoid having the next one do the same thing, you will have to get into the routine of removing and cleaning the bit every day.

It shouldn't be hard to find a new soldering iron tip. Grainger, Sears, Radio Shack, many on line stores. Every soldering iron used a different tip though, so you will have to know what you are looking for.
