What is the best way to get Peace Officer Certified in Texas?

If you are trying to be hired by a Police department that requires it, there are private Police Academies and some colleges that offer training and certification.

If you want to apply with a larger police department that has it's own academy, you can try that. However, it will not be easy. It could take up to a year just to get to an interview after you apply. Those larger cities often have a large number of people applying, and it's a lot harder to get into their academy. In situations like that, you will have a job with that department after you pass the academy. If you can afford it, go to a college academy and get TCLEOSE certified. Once you have done that you will be a licensed peace officer in the state of Texas. Once you are TCLEOSE certified you can apply to any law enforcement agency in the state. You may or may not get a job where you want to, but you also have the possibility of working as a reserve officer for a police or sheriff's department. You are not paid as a reserve officer, but you will gain experience on the job that will definitely help you on an application to any other agency that you apply to. You might even eventually get a full time paid job with the agency you are reserving for, if an opening comes up. I'd say if you can afford it and you want to be a peace officer that seriously, go to a college academy and get certified.
