Russian baths-how do you use them properly?

I met two Russians in the only decent steam bath in east London and am going to visit St Petersburg to see some friends, when I would like to try a really good bath. I like to use the few decent baths we have over here, so this would be an obvious thing for me to do.

Can anyone tell me what the Russian baths are about, how to behave and what to expect?

Do a some research on Russian baths (known as "banyas"). It's a public bath, basically. And just like the answerer above me said, do what everyone else does.
