Do we really want to end world hunger?

There are many BILLIONaires, also millionaires, with untold scads more $$$ than they will ever need.

Are people going hungry because there isn't enough food, or because there is TOO MUCH greed?

It seems there is plenty of money for people to have a decent life, or at least food to eat, but the rich are getting richer?

What do you all think?

I agree! But there are always those stupid rich people out there who have their 43 bedroom houses and 10 cars. Which is not necisarry at all.

I'd say that people who have that much money should be forced to donate $250 a month to the homeless

I think its one of those things where you say certainly there is more than enough resources to take care of ending world hunger, but how do you tell each individual person how much they should give up to the cause? Regrettably some people probably wouldnt give what people deemed was their "fair share" if such a number could ever be established.

Although not immediately the same, take a look at the UN millennium development goals which would help to deal with things like world hunger. Many nations simply have not come close to hitting their targets and likely will not (and many of these nations are the richest in the world).

Its an amazingly sad notion to realize how much of the world attempts to live at below subsistence levels when millions of people in wealthy nations make numerous cheap purchases a day, which likely constitute more than many families have in much longer timespans.

Awareness still is probably part of the issue. Everyone realizes people go hungry, but i dont think that many people realize how many people there actually are.

so sadly id say as much as any given person probably wants hunger to end, i dont think "we" do as much as i think any of us would hope.

I think that we should start in our own back yard! End hunger in America, and then move on if it is available. I do not know one person that is not struggling at this time. You are correct about the greed! I try to keep my household low maintenance. Necessity first. Most folks put a new care before feeding their children. I have a feeling if there is not a big change in the next few year, we will have a collapse of the American economy?!?!?! Scary, and you are right on!!! I think for all those getting government assistance to buy their food, go get a darn job already!!!

Money alone can not produce Food or anything. There may be people of greed and there are people who are more lathergic. The interest for doing agriculture is continuously reducing. Where there are fertile lands there may be less resources of either money or human. Some one should take initiative to see that money, labor, land and water balanced to end world hunger.

Ok there are honest hard-working people out there who would love to end world hunger, but just don't have the resources. Then you have the rich people. Too much into their own money, they either keep all their money or only give some to local charities, nothing global. See, if i was rich, i would gladly become poor again just to see 500 people stop starving. but thats me. rich people usually dont know what its like to have nothing

I think that there are several places of poverty like Africa and some places in Asia that people starve to death everyday. It is because they have nothing to eat and that they die from starvation and malnutrition. I think that the biggest culprit is WASTE!!! If we didn't waste so much food and instead of puring down the food into the waste bin, and we kept it for the next meal, these people could have more to eat. You might not want to eat leftovers, but this is human lives we are talking about. For every piece of food you waste, several people die because they have nothing to eat.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, Teach a man to fish, he eats for life. what needs to be done with some of that money is to set up new methods for these people to farm and grow crops. we made a mistake once of giving a developing country tractors to help with their farming... what we forgot is that tractors run on gasoline something the country did NOT have and abandoned them. a true plan that would last for the years to come needs to be set in motion, rather then a typical American 'quick fix' scheme

I think that, the world is run on greed, i mean Bill Gates is generous with his givings but there are still starving children, i dont think we'll ever end world hunger, no matter how much we try.

I think it is because there is too much greed and wastefulness in some countries and not enough money in others
