Recommend a hotel or B&B in San Francisco?

They are the White Swan Inn a sort of inn similar to small London Inns or The Petite Auberge a French Country Inn.

One suggestions is the San Remo Hotel in North Beach. It is a small hotel (62 rooms) and North Beach is a fun neighborhood.

If you're going to have a car, and want closer access to the Fisherman's Wharf area (and Golden Gate Bridge), I like this little motel--the people are nice, the rooms are sweet, it's quiet but very close to major streets, and unusual for SF, it has a pool:
