You should rent the movie "Heavy Metal," an animated collection of sci-fi/fantasy stories, based on the magazine of the same name. The landscapes and characters in that film were alluded to during the South Park cheesing trip sequences.

The soundtrack is truly a classic and the song "Heavy Metal" (one way ticket to midnight) was performed by Sammy Hagar in his pre-Van Halen, days as the "Red Rocker."

There is another song called "Heavy Metal" on the soundtrack which was performed by Don Felder of The Eagles.

Neither song (nor any on the soundtrack) are very metal in my opinion, but good songs nonetheless.
