What dog should i get? something small...welsh corgi?

I'm looking to get a dog, but i don't know what kind to get. We want a girl dog and something small like a terrier mix. What would you recommend getting? Are Welsh corgi's good dogs to have?

Get a small mutt and from a shelter. Mutt's have an even temper and make great pets. Poodle mixes don't shed so there's a point for them. Go to the shelter and have a look. If you need help picking one for your exact lifestyle please ask a professional. That way you get a dog that matches your energy level training abilities. I can help!

I like the Pembroke's over the Welsh myself. I've trained quite a few corgis. You must remember that they are a hearding breed dog and require quite a bit of exercise or they will find something else to do

I always recommend that you do some homework before choosing any dog. What will work best for you and your home

Go to or watch some dog shows to get an idea.

Go to a doggie day care as well or observer a obedience class. Gives you a good idea what dogs are like in real life

Good luck to you in your search

A welsh corgi is a very good choice if you are looking for an active but not hyper small/medium breed dog. Terrier mixes are also good but you do need to keep in mind the have a history of behavioral issues and hyperactivity, nothing that proper training won't fix.

We need more information than that. Such as:

-How much time can you devote to exercising your dog?

-How long will the dog be left home alone during the day?

-Are there any children in the household, and if so, what ages?

-Are there any other pets in the house?

-Where do you live? Apartment, house, city, country, etc?

-How much time are you willing to spend grooming the dog? Are you willing to get a dog that requires professional grooming?

-What do you mean by "small"? 5lbs? 10? 20?

A Corgi is a 20-30lb, high energy working dog. They tend to nip ankles and are typically not suggested for very young children. They require a good deal of exercise. They shed moderately and must be brushed out several times a week. They may be too pushy to do well with cats or smaller/nervous dogs.

Corgi's are cute, but prone to expensive back issues! Staffordshire Bull Terriers are my personal pick for a small terrier, low shedding, high trainability, and the ultimate nanny dog if you have kids. If you can get past the muscles and stigma...check them out!

I have a ten-year old corgi, and I just got another corgi puppy about a week ago. I am proud to say that my ten-year old one is in perfect health, and has had no major health issues. They are great dogs to have in a house or apartment, and are great with kids. I was three when we got my first corgi, and he behaved great with me. One thing to watch out for is that when you pick them up, you want to make sure that you support their butt, because if you don't, it can lead to back problems. You also don't want to let them get fat, as that can also lead to back problems.

Corgi's are pretty cool for small dogs, which I don't generally like.

I say, go to the pound and find something unique in the size you like!

I have a 4 year old Yorkie and they are awesome dogs if you have any pet allergies! I enjoy taking him to the dog park, groomers, and in the car. Because he is so small it was easy to get approval from my apartment to have him, he is easy to care for and he is easy to travel with. But that is just me and Gus.

Really make sure what ever type of dog you get know your financial obligations and make sure you have time to walk them. Be aware of food, supply, vet, shot, lisc., and training costs. Puppy classes for basic skills will be really great for you and the dog to bond and for them to learn some puppy manners. Make sure you know exactly what you are getting into before you get a dog. It's like getting a baby they need care and attention everyday.
