Is this car worth it?!?
Today i went looking for my first car and i came across a 1996 BMW Z3.
It has about 53,000 miles on it
a 1.6 liter engine
manual transmission
a 6 cd changer in the trunk
convertable top (manual)
it seemed to be a very good car with no major problems (one of the handels was coming of and the fabric on the side of the doors might need changing)
the guy wanted 12,900 for it but i offered 11,500.
Is this car worth it?
Does anyone have it and have any problems with it? dislikes?

that' way too much.
the other day i saw a 01 Z4 w/ 49000miles for 12000 and it is also negotiable, so i think you're overpaying here.
remember this car is 12yrs old.
also consider that i live in a very wealthy area, and the guy is asking 12000, i think you really overpaid w/ even 11500.
most i'll offer 8500

You can't buy much of a car for $500. You sound a bit like you want to justify a newer car rather than get by. There is nothing wrong with wanting a new car, but financially it does not make sense to do so if you can get in good running order for $500. There should be another 75,000 to 100,000 in tha told Regal before you will need to junk it out.

Don't buy it period. It is to old and the asking price is to high. BMW's cost allot to fix and to do maintenance on. For that money you can get a better and newer car. Are you sure about the mileage on it. The fabric is worn and a handle coming off usually do not occur with 53000 miles.
Good luck, but definitely go look around some more

As a lot of people have said it is being asked way too much for. But don't be shied away from an older bmw. They are very reliable (contrary to what most people who have never owned one think) as long as maintenance is being kept up. This is not asking much, but keep looking there are tons of BMWs out there for good prices. Also if this is your first car, don't get a convertible it will shoot insurance out of the roof.

I love the Z3, good choice. But this guy is ripping you off big time. He realizes this is your first car, and he's gonna try to take advantage of you. It does have low mileage, but with interior damage, you have to wonder about the previous owner, and how well they took care of this car... If he were reasonable, it should be priced somewhere between $7000-$8000 because of the year, damage, etc...

It depends...being 12 years old I wouldnt, but if you really want it, go for it!
HOWEVER! Make sure you have it inspected by a mechanic before you buy it! ALSO! Make sure you get a CarFax report! If ANYTHING critical is on it, DO NOT BUY THE CAR! Also, 53k miles isnt too bad for a 12 year older car....you might want to get the handle and the door fabric fixed tho.
Good luck! =]

bmw is a good choice, the mileage is nit bad.. for a 96 thats a little more than what you should pay, how about looking you may find a newer model for that price, overall see if he will take some money off maybe pay 9,000
