2 month old on feeding schedule?

Relatives have their 2 month old on a 7 oz, 4 x's a day feeding schedule. Isnt that too young? Shouldnt he be feed when he's hungry? When they do feed him he gulps it down really fast. It seems wrong to me.

Update:

About 30ish minutes after the feeding I saw he had a horrible screaming spell, lasted for about 30 mintues. I felt so bad for the baby. I noticed they didnt burb him either.

Schedules like that have been linked with failure to thrive and dehydration. Yes, you should always feed your baby when they are hungry. They go through growth spurts, change their own schedule. You can't limit and time their feedings. Plus baby is only getting 28 oz. babies need up to 32oz so they have to be flexible with how much baby wants and when he wants it.

Honey your baby will determine her own feeding schedule!! My pediatrician told me at two months my daughter should be nursing every 2 hours and eating 2 ounces at each feeding. My daughter had a different plan. She ate 3-4 ounces every 3 hours or so. It sounds to me like you have a pretty good schedule going. Unfortunately it doesn't allow for you to get a lot of sleep. If you are patient though the much needed sleep is on it's way. By the way some docs will say not to try to give babes a schedule because it doesn't work. Congrats on the little one!!

A baby's stomach at 2 months is too small to handle 7ozs at a time. He probably has a really upset stomach after feeds, hence the crying. It should probably be no more than 2-3 hrs between feedings at that age, around 4-5ozs each feed. 4hrs between feeds is for bigger tummies, probably around 4 months or older. You should say something to your relatives. A lot of pediatricians don't have a clue about the realities of parenthood and what works in the real world for babies (some aren't even parents). Advice from other moms and some good books on parenting are way more helpful.

thats way too much. a 2 month old should be eating 4-5 oz every 3 hrs about in the day and maybe wake up at night. i know alot of women with babies and i have 2 and my children and their children do not eat that much. If your baby is hungry i would consider giving them some cereal twice a day but never 7oz of milk at once. I have a 7 month old daughter and only in her evening feeding does she drink 7 oz. in day day she has 5.5 oz with her breakfest, lunch and dinner. I would say something if i was you!

That is not right for them too feed him only 4 times a day TOTALLY NOT NORMAL. like i said my daughter is now 7 months and she has 5milk feeding per 24 hrs. 3 of 5.5 oz and 2 of 7-8 oz

I would hope they talked to his doctor about the schedule. I suppose as long as he's growing normally and not being fussy all the time in between bottles, but I agree with you. That seems awfully young to already be down to only 4 bottles a day. Maybe it's just me though because I'm not really fond of schedules like that in the first place.

Seems wrong to me too! But, I don't really believe in strict feeding schedules anyway. I think that this schedule is normally for a child that is at least 4 months old.

It sounds like he is hungry if he is drinking it like that, advise them to make sure they are not over feeding them to much. What about at night do they wake him to feed him or wait untill he wakes up?

Id say it would be better to feed him when he wants to be fed. Be much better as long as hes eating enough.

babies should be fed when they are hungry. you might ask if this is a schedule that the doctor set up for them.

it seems to be a bit too harsh for an infant.
