Mouse problems with a Dell D820 laptop?

Anyone know how to change the mouse sensitivity on this thing?

I can be typing and the pointer will be somewhere else on the page and it will select things if the pointer has been sitting there for a few seconds or if its somewhere else parallel to the text I'm typing, I'll suddenly be inserting text somewhere else in the page. WTF?

Update:

Alf: Tried that already, there is nothing there to control mouse sensitivity, thanks anyway.

Sounds like you are inadvertently brushing the touchpad with the heel of your hand as you type.

I have a Dell 830, so I'll describe how I change mine. I hope yours will be the same.

In the mouse control panel there is a "Dell Touchpad" tab. Click anywhere on the big picture of the touchpad to change the settings. You could alternatively right click the touchpad icon in the system tray and select "Touchpad properties".

The bottom left quadrant has the Touchpad Settings link. Click that one to bring up the controls.

You have a couple of options. You can either set the Touch Sensitivity farther towards the "Heavy Touch" so that the heel of your hand will be less likely to cause inadvertent clicking, *or* you can uncheck the box that says "tap to Click". That way, you will have to use the buttons manually, but you wont be inserting text at some random point in your document any more.

Go to control panel/ printers and other hardware/ mouse and there you go. Follow the instructions.
