How do I edit pictures in Adobe Illustrator CS2?

I need to edit a picture which I downloaded from the internet. It is a picture of a woman running and what I want to do is to keep the shape of her but to get rid of the inside shadows and background. The problem is that whenever I press the brush button, is comes out with a little symbol showing me that it is impossible to do such thing. How am i suppose to draw anything? Can someone please help me, and tell me what am I doing wrong?

Your best bet is to use the lasoo tool and carefully mask (trace) the outline of the figure, then with the mask in place just take the fill tool, choose a fill colour and paint inside the mask. That will automatically fill the masked space, blocking out the inside details. then just copy and paste the shape onto a new page and you'll have got rid of background and inner details.

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

A good free program for advanced photo editing is GIMP. The best free solution on the market without a shadow of a doubt. Download here http://bitly.com/1zbn0N2

It's a very simple and nice software.
