Even better than the previous answers...

Take the "4" train (elevated) downtown to 125th Street (you'll be under Lexington Avenue). Get out at the station and walk one block (it's safe...especially around game time) west to Park Avenue (you'll see elevated tracks at that part). That is the Harlem-125th Street Metro-North Station. From there, grab a timetable and see what track your train arrives on. You can catch the Harlem Line train to White Plains (and probably an express so you'll blow by a lot of stations!)

Actually its very easy. But your going to walk about a half mile

Start out going East on E 161st St towards Gerard Ave

Turn left onto Park Ave (3231 Park Avenue) and board Metro North's Harlem Line towards Wassaic at the Melrose Station.

White Plains is the 12th stop.

Most direct way is by taking uptown (4) train to Bedford Park Blvd for W20/W21 LTD AM) to White Plains TransCenter, Galleria Mall, Some bus continues to Bloomingdales.

They're both $2 and free transfer within regular MetroCard.

If you choose Metro-North option, take Manhattan-bound (4) to 125th St, use Lexington Av NW corner exit, and walk west to Park Av for Harlem-125th St, purchase ticket from vending machine or ticket window to White Plains for peak $8.75 or off-peak $6.50.
