why do you think times have changed?
Alot of teenagers and kids I see constantly disrespect my parents. My brother is 14 and when he was 12 he started calling my mom a ***** and **** you.. i mean i can't be that hard on him because i was just like him as well just not as harsh. Whenever we swore my dad would wash our mouths out with soap. My parents divorced and now all 3 of us kids live in my moms house and she has it rough.
Why do you think the times have changed and teens/kids are more disrespectful to their parents/guardians
I asked this question about 30 minutes ago "Does it bother you how 'slutty' our generation is getting?"
its some what of a sequel to my original question.

cartoons.
seriously have you seen kids on cartoon network?
they disrespect parents and treat them like they are retarded.
the parents on the shows are made out to be airheads.
kids think that they can just boss their parents around and not get disipline.
but on the brady bunch, roseanne, boy meets world and old shows like that, kids actually got punishment for what they did.

Yes, kids are way more disrespectful. To everyone. Teachers, parents, friends, etc.
They have changed due to the media and peer pressure. The kids who just ignore it, are the ones who are respectful and pleasant. The kids, most likely, will regret it in the long run. And it's actually sad. Especially the cursing, not listening, etc. However, most kids will do it at least a few times, any generation.

Though a lot of things seem to be getting worse I think nothing every really changes. There are always families with troubled, there are always families where kids don't respect the parents (and people divorce because the parents don't respect each other so don't you think the kids pick up on that?)
Best luck. I feel sorry for you.

I think the parents are being too relaxed on their children. They need to have the upper hand and let the kids know who is in charge. When I was a kid, neither one of us would even DREAM of talking back to my parents, let alone consider calling them a name! Oh god, I don't think we'd ever see the light of day again. But hey, I learned respect. And these kids need to learn that too.

Kids just aren't getting the right kind of disciplin from their parents. Your mother needs to step up to the plate and wash out your mouths just like your father used to do. Your mother is shown as a weakness to your brother and so he thinks he can do whatever he wants around her. It shouldn't be this way. You need to tell your mom to step up and take charge.

Of course, things are getting harder, because external influences to children these days are much greater: Think of the internet and how it helps shape opinions of teenagers. However, no matter what, it It all comes down to parenting...
