Nintendo 64 Super Smash Bros & Memory Card????

Hello i recently got an n64 and got super smash bros and while i was playing i realized that whenever i unlocked a new character when i turned off my console they were gone so i was wondering do you need the memory card for it or is it just my game and if you need the card will the game just auto save to it or do you have to do something???

Update:

I see well if the battery in the game died would it be possible to save it to the memory card?

I have been playing games since I was 3, 1996. I have played all the best nintendo 64 games and you have many of the best ones. I would definately recommend Donkey Kong 64. My whole family had their own files and were playing that game for quite some time. Donkey Kong 64 is a great game and is most rememorable. Donkey Kong 64 will take a while to beat so it will last you for a while over the summer. I noticed that you do not have super mario 64 which was the best adventure 64 game of them all! Hope I helped!

  • Thats odd, the game should save itself, there is no memory card needed. you probably have a defective game. Or it may be you did not purchase the expansion for the n64. Its some kind of red thing that goes on top of your n64. Its either one of those two, but your save states should not be erasing, so you dont need a memory card. I know since I have the game, you do not need a memory card, I still have all my characters unlocked and all the courses completed, so no you do not need a memory card. ts just like Mario kart, you dont need a memory card for that.

the expansion thing looks like this http://www.space.net.au/~lmccorry/images/n64_expan...

Smash brothers 64 didnt require a memory card at all.

What probably happenned was that the internal battery failed. 64 games and also oldschool gameboy games have a small abttery that is somehow essential to save. Thats why alot of older gameboy games wont let you save, kind of sucks.

Yes, you do need the memory card, it is like the Game Cube, you always need that card to save.

The old game doesn't save buy it self. When your done with a game, in the main menu there should be a save button or something. Hope this helps! =]

yes, n64 does not have a harddrive thus data cannot be stored on the machine itself, so yeah.. you will need a memory card.
